Thomas Herod, Jr. is a storyteller, specializing in writing and directing film, video and theater to entertain and inform and move people. He has helped produce 20 feature films or television programs and won over 20 awards for films, videos and theater projects he has directed. He now operates A Video Production Company called Tom Herod Films in Austin, Texas, produces, with his partner Gordon Thomas, a one minute daily comedy series called Minutesworth, writes a blog for video production clients and publishes Take a Break Videos--video production just for the fun of it (walk the streets of Paris or raft the Grand Canyon).
As a filmmaker he was selected for the Center of Advanced Film Studies at the American Film Institute as a directing fellow (25 out of 1000 applicants) after producing the first-ever dramatic film for a Masters Thesis Project at the University of Texas at Austin. He was the first person to ever become an Assistant Director member of the Directors Guild of America while living in Texas. (He is currently a Director member of the DGA and is still on the LA QL as UPM and 1st AD.)
As a communicator and leader since high school and college, he was on the debate team at the University of North Texas, class president for 3 years in a row, a founder and the third president of the Texas Association of Film/Tape Professionals, chairman of his town’s transportation commission and is a Girl Scout leader.
In management positions on 20 feature films or television series or TV movies, serving as an assistant director, production manager or line producer (See the credit list), Tom has worked with directors like Monte Hellman, Michael Ritchie, and Ron Howard and cast members like Bette Davis, Helen Hunt, Halle Barry, Kathy Bates, Lorraine Brocco, Mary McDonnell, Rue McClannahan, Patrick Duffy, Randy Quaid, Sam Elliot, Harrison Ford, James Woods, Martin Landau, Brian Benben, Bruce Dern, Joe Mantegna, Christopher Walken, and Henry Thomas.
